34 08 06

2010080/3

December 22, 2008.

Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 34 number 07-03 dated May 18, 2007 for reasons listed below.

Affected Vehicles

34 Direct Shift Gearbox shudders briefly during heavy cornering

Condition

Vehicle shudders briefly during heavy cornering (lateral acceleration), especially after cold start.

Technical Background

May be caused by a transmission oil overflow pipe that is too short. If the oil level is slightly low, air may be drawn into the gear oil pump and affect oil pressure.

Condition does not lead to gearbox damage.

Production Solution

Improved production.

Service

Drain transmission oil and replace oil overflow pipe as described in the Repair Manual.

Figure 1:

The new overflow pipe (Part No. 02E 321 363C) is blue in color and 96 mm in length.

Pipe should be changed during the 35,000 mile (55,000 km) scheduled maintenance oil change.
