Ribbed Belt, Removing and Installing
Notes:
^ The illustration shows the belt drive on vehicles without air conditioning.
^ Before removing the ribbed belt, mark the direction of rotation using chalk or a felt marker pen. If the belt rotates in the wrong direction when it is reinstalled, this can cause breakage. Ensure that the belt is properly seated in the pulleys when installing.
^ Refer to Installing air conditioning compressor in figure 3 below.

Fig. 3 Installing air conditioning compressor
^ To facilitate the positioning of the A/C compressor, knock back threaded bushes - B
^ for retaining bolts - A - slightly in direction indicated (arrow).
^ Tighten bolts to 45 Nm.
Removing ribbed belt
Notes: Before removing the ribbed belt, mark the direction of rotation using chalk or a felt marker pen. If the belt rotates in the wrong direction when it is reinstalled, this can cause breakage. Ensure that the belt is properly seated in the pulleys when installing.
^ To loosen ribbed belt turn tensioning element in direction of arrow.
^ Remove ribbed belt.
The tensioning element can be locked in position with a suitable punch (4.5 mm diameter, approximately 55 mm long). Conrod support 3090 can also be used.
Installing ribbed belt
Notes: Before fitting the ribbed belt ensure that all accessories (generator, air conditioning compressor, vane pump) are properly secured.
^ Fit ribbed belt.
^ Loosen tensioning element for ribbed belt. Pull out punch or conrod support 3090 - arrows -.
^ Start engine and check that belt runs properly.
Notes: Engines with an air conditioning compressor are fitted with a double ribbed belt.
Tightening Torques
1) Stretch bolts - replace
2) 90 degrees is a quarter turn
