Headlights, Adjusting

Current specifications and procedures for headlight adjustment:

Special tools and equipment







- VAS 5051 with VAS 5051/1 and VAS 6017

NOTE: On vehicles with high intensity gas discharge (Xenon) headlights, check DTC memory, erase it and perform basic setting before every manual adjustment via adjustment screws.

Test requirement:
- VAS 5051 tester with VAS 6017 K-wire adapter connected and vehicle On Board Diagnostic (OBD) "55 headlight vertical aim control" selected.







Indicated on VAS 5051:
- In selection -1-, click on the diagnostic function "04. Basic setting"







Display on VAS 5051:
1. Enter display group
- Select function "001" in button field -2- for "display group number 001" and press Q button to confirm input.

- Headlights are being moved to set position.







Display on VAS 5051:
1. Basic setting
2. Display group 1
3. Headlight Adjusting

Headlights are now in the set position.

NOTE: Basic setting 1 switches the adjustment mode off and enters "headlights not set" into DTC memory,







Adjustment screws at right headlight.
Arrangement at left headlight is mirror image of right headlight.

1. Adjustment screw for height/lateral adjustment
2. Adjustment screw for vertical adjustment
- For height adjustment, turn adjustment screws -1- and -2- with the same number of rotations.
- Only use adjustment screw -1- for lateral adjustment.







Display on VAS 5051:
- Press s button to change into display group 002.

1. Basic setting
2. Display group 2
3. Adjusted position adapted
The control module has now learned this position as the adjustment position.

NOTE: The entry in DTC memory ("Headlights not set") is erased and adjustment mode is re-initiated.

- End function "04 - Basic setting" by pressing a button.
- Select "06 - End Output"
