Wheel Bearing Housing (Steel)



Part V: Wheel bearing housing (steel), all wheel drive





1 - Wheel bearing housing
^ All wheel drive vehicles
^ Removing and installing
^ Servicing

2 - Wheel bearing
^ Removing and installing with wheel bearing housing removed
^ Removing and installing (on vehicle)

3 - Wheel hub
^ Removing and installing with wheel bearing housing removed
^ Removing and installing (on vehicle)

4 - Collared bolt
^ Always replace
^ Tighten to 200 Nm plus an additional 180° 1/2 turn
^ Tighten to 200 Nm while vehicle is raised; turn through specified angle only when vehicle is standing on its wheels
^ Do not loosen more than 90° when vehicle is standing on its wheels

5 - Drive axle
^ Removing and installing
^ Servicing (with 100 mm diameter inner joint)
^ Servicing (with 108 mm diameter inner joint)

6 - Speed sensor
^ Routing of wiring

7 - Hex socket head bolt, 10 Nm

8 - Washer
9 - Self-locking nut
^ Always replace

10 - Shock absorber
^ Removing and installing
^ Note correct installation position
^ Note different suspension versions; see vehicle data sticker
^ Faulty shock absorbers must always be degassed and drained before disposal
^ Checking shock absorber following removal

11 - Combi bolt, 36 Nm
12 - Combi bolt
^ Always replace
^ Tighten to 150 Nm plus an additional 90° 1/4 turn
^ Suspension must be in curb weight position when tightening bolt connections
