Rear Wheel Speed Sensor, AWD, Removing and Installing



Speed sensor on rear axle, removing and installing
- Loosen wheel bolts.
- Raise vehicle.
- Remove wheel.
- Switch off ignition.





- Remove hex bolt - 1 -.
- Pull speed sensor out of wheel bearing housing.
- Loosen Torx bolt - 3 - and pull out cable bracket.





- Remove hex bolt - 1 -.
- Loosen Torx bolt - 2 - and remove cable bracket.





- Unclip speed sensor wiring from retainers.





- Detach underbody cover - arrow -
- Lift rear seat out of locking device.





- Release cable bracket, disconnect speed sensor connector - 1 - and press out grommet (left and right sides are mirror image).

Installing
Installation is in reverse sequence.
- Before installing, lubricate speed sensor seal all around with lubricating paste G 000 650.

Checking rotor on rear axle
- Raise vehicle.
- Remove wheel.
- Remove speed sensor from wheel bearing housing.
- Inspect rotor for signs of damage or dirt.

Removing and installing rotor on rear axle
Removing
- Raise vehicle.
- Remove wheel.
- Remove brake caliper Brake pads, removing and installing.
- Hang up brake caliper on body.
- Inspect rotor for signs of damage or dirt.
- If rotor is damaged, remove drive axle with rotor and replace outer joint.

Installing
Installation is in reverse sequence.
- Route speed sensor wire back in original position.
- Before installing, lubricate speed sensor seal all around with lubricating paste G 000 650.

Note:
^ If rotor is damaged or dirty, remove drive axle. If damaged, replace outer CV joint together with rotor.
^ The outer CV joint is supplied as a replacement part with the rotor.
