Steering Angle Sensor: Service and Repair



Self-Cancelling Ring With Slip Ring (Coil Connector/ ESP Sensor), Removing And Installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

- Screwdriver T8 T40056

- Removing:
- Remove drivers airbag unit (standard steering wheel).
- Remove drivers airbag unit (sports steering wheel)
- Remove drivers airbag unit (multi-function steering wheel)
- Remove steering wheel (standard steering wheel)
- Remove steering wheel (sports steering wheel)
- Remove steering wheel (multi-function steering wheel)
- Pull steering column out and down as far as possible.







- Remove Torx bolts with screwdriver T8 T40056 - 3 - and - 5 - as well as hex socket head bolt - 4 -.
- Tightening torque 1 Nm
- Separate upper trim - 2 - for steering column switch from lower trim - 1 - and remove both sections.
To install, insert the upper trim into the hooks of the lower trim, press both sections together and screw in place.







- Disconnect connector - 1 -.
- Carefully release locking tabs - arrows - and pull self-cancelling ring with slip ring off steering column switch.

- Installing:
- Make sure that all 3 locking tabs and connector are correctly engaged.

NOTE:
- The steering must be in the center position (wheels in straight-ahead position) when the self-cancelling ring with slip ring are removed and installed.
- Self-cancelling ring with slip ring is secured as a new part in the center position with a cable tie or tear ring.
- The ESP sensor must be adjusted in vehicles with ESP sensor in self-cancelling ring with slip ring.
