Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 90 number 08-18 dated December 8, 2008 for reasons listed below.
Affected Vehicles
Condition
One of the following conditions is present:
- Ambient temperature display intermittently shows values that are too low.
- A/C system is not cooling.
Technical Background
May be caused by oil film on the contacts of ambient temperature sensor G17 or poor crimping of the sensor connections on the pins in ambient temperature sensor G17.
Production Solution
Optimized ambient temperature sensor G17. (Washed contacts and optimized crimp connection.) Optimized sensors are identified with a green, blue or yellow dot.
Service
1. Temporary disruption of the ambient temperature sensor signal may be caused by jolting or thermal expansion. Check for disruption in the wiring to ambient air temperature sensor G17 according to the current flow diagram. The value blocks for ambient temperature sensor G17 are:
- A8, A4, A3: MVB 2, field 4.
- A6: MVB 4, field 2.
If the values are clearly too low, replace the ambient temperature sensor.
2. Test drive the vehicle for a minimum of 0.5 miles. Maintain a speed of 35 mph or higher.
3. Recheck temperature for proper values.
TIP: Replacement of the dash insert or the air conditioning components is not permitted. Replaced parts may be denied.
