Adapting Kick-down Function After Replacing Throttle Position Sensor Or Engine Control Module
NOTE: If the throttle position sensor or engine control module are replaced in vehicles with automatic transmission, the kickdown function must be adapted.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 A with diagnostic cable VAS 5051/5A
Test conditions
- Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 A connected, On-board diagnostics and vehicle system "01 Engine electronics" selected.
- Engine not running, ignition switched on.
- No faults in DTC memory.
Work procedure
Display on VAS 5051 A:
- In selection -1-, click on diagnostic function "04 - Basic Setting".
Display on VAS 5051 A:
- Select "063" in button field -2- for "display group 063" and confirm input by pressing Q button.
Display on VAS 5051 A:
- Activate basic setting by pressing A button.
- Check readings in display field -3- and -4-.
Scan tool display: "Operate kick-down".
- Depress accelerator pedal completely past kick-down point and hold depressed.
Scan tool display: "Kick-down ADP running". After kick-down adaptation is completed, the display shows "Kick-down ADP OK".
NOTE:
- If "Kick-down ERROR" is displayed: Check DTC Memory.
- "ERROR" could be displayed e.g. if the accelerator pedal is not immediately depressed after prompting the tester or if the accelerator pedal is released during adaptation, even though adaptation had not been completed. Exit the function "04 - Basic setting" by pressing button and perform adaptation again.
- End function "04 - Basic setting" by pressing button.
- From selection, click on the diagnostic function "06 - End output".
- Turn the ignition off and disconnect the diagnostic connection.
