Oil Pump: Service and Repair

Balance shaft housing with oil pump, removing and installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Connecting pin T10027:

Removing
- Remove oil pan

CAUTION: Only turn over the engine at the crankshaft in direction of engine rotation (clockwise).

Note: Turning over the engine is performed at the central bolt of the crankshaft.

- Set camshaft gear to marking for TDC by turning crankshaft. The marking on the camshaft sprocket must align with - arrow - on toothed belt cover.

- Remove chain guard. If necessary, release retaining tabs through openings - arrows - with a small screwdriver.

- Loosen bolt from oil pump chain sprocket. Counter-hold at central bolt for vibration damper.

- Relieve tension on chain rail with a screwdriver - arrow - and secure it with an Allen wrench - 1 -, wrench diameter 3 mm.

- Remove oil pump chain sprocket and unhook chain at balance shaft drive.

- Remove oil baffle, thereby removing bolts - 1 and 2 -.

- Loosen bolts - arrows - from balance shaft housing from outside to inside and remove it.

Installing
^ Chain tensioner pre-tensioned
- Replace all bolts of balance shaft housing
- Replace seal of balance shaft housing bolt.

- Install balance shaft housing with oil pump and intermediate plate. Fasten bolts - arrows - from inside to outside to 15 Nm plus an additional 90° 1/4 turn.

Note: Observe the different lengths of bolts.

Note: Pay attention to centering sleeves.

- Install oil baffle, thereby inserting tabs into balance shaft housing - arrows - and tightening bolt - 1 - to 21 Nm and bolts - 2 - to 9 Nm.

Note: Turning over the engine is performed at the central bolt of the crankshaft.

- Set engine to TDC at cyl. 1, by turning crankshaft in engine running direction at the central bolt of the crankshaft toothed belt sprocket. Marking on camshaft sprocket and marking on crankshaft must be positioned at TDC for cyl. 1 - arrows -.

- Position the marking on balance shaft chain sprocket - arrow - across from locating hole. Secure chain sprocket in this position using connecting pin T10027. Place chain onto chain sprocket of balance shaft.
- Install oil pump chain sprocket and tighten bolt by hand.

Note: The oil pump chain sprocket only fits in one position. When installing, the oil pump may be turned exclusively.

- Remove connecting pin T10027 and Allen wrench - 1 -. Fasten oil pump chain sprocket. Torque specification: 25 Nm. Counter-hold at central bolt for vibration damper.

The rest of the assembly is basically a reverse of disassembling sequence.
- Install oil pan
