Navigation System: Testing and Inspection
On Board Diagnostic, Function
Radio Navigation systems are controlled by an internal microprocessor with On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capability. If malfunctions occur in monitored components or wiring, Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) are stored in memory.
Troubleshoot radio and navigation system malfunctions and code or adapt system functions by performing OBD program using Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051/5052 in operating mode "Guided Fault Finding".
VAS 5051/5052 connected and in mode "Guided Fault Finding":
- Enter appropriate model, equipment and model year information and press ">" to confirm.
After the DTC memory of all control modules has been checked:
- Press "Go to" button
- Select: "Function / Component Selection"
- Select: "Body"
- Select: "Electrical Equipment"
- Select: "01. On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capable systems"
- Select: "37. Navigation" (or equivalent selection)
- Select: appropriate option
- Follow tester prompts.
Navigation System, troubleshooting with on-screen fault messages
In the event of a system fault, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is stored in fault memory and/or a fault message appears on the navigation display.
At present, the following fault messages can be displayed:
DVD read error Please check DVD.
This fault message occurs in the following situations:
- The navigation DVD cannot be read.
- DVD disc is faulty.
Check and replace navigation DVD if necessary.
Indicated on display:
CD/DVD drive defect. Unable to read data. Consult your dealer.
This fault message occurs in the following situations:
- The media drive cannot read the DVD data.
- The DVD drive is faulty.
If this fault is detected:
- First check if the media drive can read a replacement DVD.
- If not, replace Navigation System with CD Drive Control Module J401.
