Track Control Link



Track control link, removing and installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A:




Ball joint puller T40010:





^ Torque wrench V.A.G 1331
^ Torque wrench V.A.G 1332

Removing
- Remove wheel trim; pull trim cap off light-alloy wheels, (using puller in vehicle tool kit).
- Remove wheel.
- On vehicles with headlight range control, detach coupling rod of Left Front Level Control System Sensor G78 from track control link.
- Secure brake disc with one wheel bolt.
- Remove nut on guide link joint pin until it is flush with end of thread. Counterhold joint pin with 4 mm Allen key if necessary.





- Press track control arm joint pin out of tapered seat using ball joint puller T40010.

Note:
^ Make sure the two lever arms of the puller are parallel when maximum force is exerted, adjust as necessary.
^ To avoid damage to upper links joints, support wheel bearing housing (e.g. using Engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A) to prevent the suspension from extending too far.





- Remove hex bolt - 1 -.
- Remove bolts - 2 - and - 4 -, and remove coupling rod.
- Remove hex bolt - 3 -.
- Remove track control link.

Installing

Note:
^ Always replace nuts and bolts.
^ Bonded rubber bushings can only be turned to a limited extent. The bolted joints at the suspension links are not to be tightened until the vehicle is standing on the ground.





- Install new hex bolt - 3 - and tighten new hex nut.
- Remove remaining adhesive from track control link. joint pin
- Tighten nut on joint pin (track control link).
- Tighten bolt connection - 1 -.
- Tighten bolt - 2 -.
- Tighten bolt - 4 -.
- On vehicles with headlight range control, install coupling rod for vehicle level sensor on track control link.
- Install wheels and tighten.
