Bumper Crossmember, Vehicles with Trailer Hitch

• Bumper cover removed.





1 Threaded plate

• Installing, refer to=> [ Trailer hitch threaded plate ]

2 Trailer hitch carrier

• Carrier and trailer hitch are one piece and can only be replaced together.

CAUTION!
• When removing bumper cover crossmember - 2 -, you can only disengage the cable - 3 - at the hand wheel. You should not remove the cable from the trailer hitch at the swivel joint under any circumstances.

• You can only install the cable in the hand wheel's basic position.

• When you disconnect the cable, the hand wheel engages in a defined basic position.

• Before installing the cable, check whether or not the hand wheel is still set in the basic position by turning it slightly.

• A slight resistance must be detected.

• Turn the hand wheel back to the basic position, if necessary, so that a slight resistance is detected.

• Removal:

- Remove the rear cross panel trim. Refer to

- Remove the rail for the tie downs.

- Loosen both side trim panels and push them to the side.

- Remove bumper. Refer to => [ Bumper Cover ].

• If the vehicle has air suspension, then remove the heat shields on the muffler as well as the 4 bolts underneath.

- Remove the power outlet.

- Remove the trailer hitch control module inside the luggage compartment.

- Remove the bolts - 6 - on both side through the longitudinal member.

- Remove the bolts on the bracket for the release=> [ (Item 2) Hex head bolt ].

- Before removing the trailer hitch, disconnect the release cable on the hand wheel. Refer to => [ Trailer Hitch Cable ]

• Remove the trailer hitch from the longitudinal members.

3 Cable grommet

• Press grommet onto rear cross panel - arrow - as shown.

4 Trailer hitch removal cable.

- Disconnect from removal hand wheel before removing trailer hitch.

- Hand wheel must be in basic position before installing cable.

- Insert cable in hand wheel; hand wheel goes from basic position to operating position.

- Insert locking clamp in hand wheel

5 Washer

6 Bolt

• 60 Nm
