D-Pillar Trim
D-Pillar Trim
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Trim removal wedge (3409)
• torque wrench (V.A.G 1783)
1 D-pillar trim with bolted limiting strap
• Removing
- Remove roof panel trim. Refer to => [ Roof Panel Trim ] Roof Panel Trim.
- Remove the bolt - 2 -.
- Carefully pry D-pillar trim - 1 - out at clips - 6 -, clips - 9 - (quantity: 2) and retaining hook - 5 - using (3409).
Ensure catches - 5 - are not damaged.
• The limiting strap - 4 - is attached to body structure with bolt - 3 -.
• The lower clamp mount in the D-pillar trim - 1 - is not used.
- Remove bolt - 3 - from limiting strap - 4 -.
- Remove D-pillar trim - 1 - upward out of rear shelf - 8 -.
• Installation is performed in reverse sequence of removal, thereby noting the following:
- Check clamp - 6 - for damage or deformity.
If clip - 6 - is damaged or deformed, D-pillar trim must be replaced.
- Check clip - 9 - for damage or deformity.
If clips - 9 - are damaged or deformed, they must be replaced.
- Remove locking compound residue from threaded bolt hole - 2 - and - 3 -. You can use a thread cutter to do so.
If the threaded hole is not cleaned, there is the danger that the new bolt will seize when installing and the function of the limiting strap is no longer ensured.
- Install limiting strap - 4 - with a new bolt - 3 - and tighten it to the specification. Refer to => [ (Item 3) Screw ].
- Before installing D-pillar trim - 1 -, ensure clips - 6 - and - 9 - are positioned correctly.
CAUTION!
Do not clamp side curtain airbag when installing D-pillar trim - 1 -.
- Install new bolt - 2 - and tighten to the specification. Refer to => [ (Item 2) Screw ].
Ensure lower D-pillar trim - 1 - is held securely.
- Install roof panel trim. Refer to => [ Roof Panel Trim ] Roof Panel Trim.
2 Screw
Self-locking
• Tightening specification 3.5 Nm
• replace after each disassembly
• Threaded hole for screw must always be cleaned (for example, with thread cutter)

4 Limiting Strap
• Refer to=> [ (Item 1) D-pillar trim with bolted limiting strap ]
• Joined securely with D-pillar trim - 1 -
• Check for damage
• Replace D-pillar trim - 1 - if limiting strap is damaged
• D-pillar trim should be replaced when side curtain airbag deploys because of possible damage to limiting strap
5 Catches
• Refer to=> [ (Item 1) D-pillar trim with bolted limiting strap ]
• Joined securely with D-pillar trim - 1 -
6 Clips
• Replace D-pillar trim if damaged or deformed
7 C-pillar Trim
8 Rear Shelf
9 Clips
