Cylinder Head Assembly Overview

• Illustration shows the cylinder bank 2 (left) cylinder head.





1 Cylinder Head

• Left cylinder head removing, refer to => [ Left Cylinder Head, Removing ] Left Cylinder Head, Removing.

• Right cylinder head removing, refer to => [ Right Cylinder Head, Removing ] Right Cylinder Head, Removing.

• Checking for distortion, refer to => [ Checking Cylinder Head for Distortion ].

• Resurfacing is not permissible!

• Installing, refer to => [ Cylinder Head, Installing ] Cylinder Head, Installing.

• Replace the coolant after replacing.

2 Cylinder Head Bolt

• Always replace.

• Note the loosening sequence:

• Left cylinder head, refer to => [ Follow the sequence to loosen the cylinder head bolts ] Left Cylinder Head, Removing.

• Right cylinder head, refer to => [ Follow the sequence to loosen the cylinder head bolts ] Right Cylinder Head, Removing.

• Observe the tightening sequence, refer to => [ Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown, in four stages as follows: ] Cylinder Head, Installing.

3 Cylinder Head Cover Ignition Coil Seal

• Replace if damaged or leaking.

4 Cylinder Head Cover Gasket

• Replace if damaged or leaking.

• Seal contact surfaces with sealant before installing, refer to => [ Seal Contact Surfaces of Bearing Cap/Cylinder Head ].

• For the sealant.

5 Cylinder Head Cover

• Left cover removing and installing, refer to => [ Left Cylinder Head Cover ] Left Cylinder Head Cover.

• Right cover removing and installing, refer to => [ Right Cylinder Head Cover ] Right Cylinder Head Cover.

6 Bolt, 10 Nm

• Replace if damaged or leaking.

7 Seal

• Replace if damaged or leaking.

8 Seal

• For the cap.

• Replace if damaged or leaking.

9 Cap

10 Bolt, 10 Nm

11 Ignition Coil

• Removing.

12 Gasket

• Replace if damaged.

13 Cylinder Head Cover Seal

• Replace if damaged or leaking.

14 O-ring

• Always replace.

15 Rear Coolant Pipe

16 Bolt, 10 Nm

17 Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Combination Valve

18 Bolt, 10 Nm

19 Gasket

• Always replace.

20 Cylinder Head Gasket

• Left gasket removing, refer to => [ Left Cylinder Head, Removing ] Left Cylinder Head, Removing.

• Right gasket removing, refer to => [ Right Cylinder Head, Removing ] Right Cylinder Head, Removing.

• Installed position: Part number faces the cylinder head.

• Replace the coolant after replacing.

Checking Cylinder Head for Distortion





- Check the cylinder head at multiple points for distortion, using a straight edge and feeler gauges.

• Maximum permissible warpage: 0.1 mm

Seal Contact Surfaces of Bearing Cap/Cylinder Head





- Apply thin layer of sealant (diameter approximately 5 mm) - arrows - to the edges of the sealing surfaces between the bearing cap and cylinder head.
