Oil seal for camshaft position sensor, replacing
Special tools and workshop equipment required
^ Oil seal extractor 2085
^ Installation tool 3241
Work sequence
- Left cylinder head
- Pull off and lift out engine cover panel -1-.
- Remove combination valve for secondary air system (left side).
- Unplug connector (arrow) from Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor 2 -G163-.
- Remove CMP sensor housing.
- Remove CMP sensor rotor and washer.
Right cylinder head
- Pull off and lift out engine cover panel -2-.
- Pull out lock carrier toward front.
- Unplug electrical connector (arrow) from Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor -G40-.
- Remove toothed belt guard (right side).
- Unscrew bolts (arrows).
- Pull toothed belt guard slightly forward and take off CMP sensor.
- Remove CMP sensor rotor and washer.
Continuation for both sides
Note: Shown in illustration on right cylinder head.
- To guide oil seal extractor, screw bolt 2085/1 by hand into camshaft as far as it will go.
- Unscrew inner part of oil seal extractor 2085 two turns out of outer part and lock in position with knurled screw.
- Lubricate threaded head of oil seal extractor 2085, place it in position and, exerting firm pressure, screw it into oil seal as far as possible.
- Loosen knurled screw and turn inner part against camshaft until oil seal has been extracted.
- Fit guide sleeve 3241/2 onto camshaft journal.
- Slide oil seal over guide sleeve.
- Press oil seal in onto stop with press sleeve 3241/1. Use bolt 3241/3.
The remaining installation steps are performed in the reverse sequence. Note the following points:

^ Replace O-ring.
^ Secure all hose connections with the correct hose clamps (same as original equipment)
^ Remove any traces of oil or grease on the hose connections and hoses for charge air system before installing. Do not apply lubricant.
Left cylinder head
- Install left combination valve for secondary air system.
Right cylinder head
- Install lock carrier with attachments:
