Ribbed Belt Alignment, Checking
Check the alignment of the ribbed belt after replacing the following components:
• Power steering pump
• Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor
• Accessory bracket (for power steering pump and A/C compressor)
• To prevent damage to the ribbed belt, check the alignment of the ribbed belt between the A/C compressor and the power steering pump.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Alignment gauge (3201)
• Spanner wrench (3212)
Test Sequence
• Lock carrier is pulled toward the front. Refer to => [ Lock Carrier, Pulling Toward the Front ] Lock Carrier, Pulling Toward the Front.
• Ribbed belt is removed. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Ribbed Belt.
- Place the (3201) on Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor pulley.
• The power steering pump pulley and A/C compressor pulley must align.
If the pulleys do not align:
- Remove the power steering pump pulley bolts - arrows -.
• For removing and installing the bolts use the (3212) to counter hold.
• Installed position: Writing "front" on the pulley indicates the direction of travel.
- Adjust the distance between the power steering pump pulley to the A/C compressor pulley using shims of 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 mm.
- Check the alignment of pulleys using the (3201). Readjust if necessary.
• Secure all hose connections using hose clamps appropriate for the model type.
