EVAP Canister Purge Solenoid Valve 2, Electrical Testing

Diagnostic Procedures

EVAP Canister Purge Solenoid Valve 2, Electrical Testing

Component location: In rear left wheel housing under wheel housing liner

- Disconnect connector at Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Solenoid Valve 2 (N115).

- Perform a resistance measurement between terminals on valve using portable multimeter (VAG1526).

Specified value: 20 to 35 ohms

If specified value is not reached, replace Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve.

- Read readiness code => [ Readiness Code, Reading ] Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes. If DTC memory was erased, readiness code must be generated again => [ Readiness Code, Generating ] Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes

If specified value is obtained, check voltage supply.

Voltage Supply, Checking

Test Prerequisite

Fuse for Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Solenoid Valve 2 (N115) (in relay- and fuse holder in instrument panel, right side) OK.

- Disconnect connector at Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Solenoid Valve (N115).

- Connect voltage test lamp (VAG1527) between terminal 1 of connector and engine Ground (GND):

- Switch ignition on.

LED must light up.

- If LED does not light up, check wire connection from terminal 1 via fuse for Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Solenoid Valve (N115) (relay- and fuse holder in instrument panel, right side) to Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) Power Supply Relay (J271) (relay carrier in E-box in plenum chamber) for open circuit.

- If voltage supply is OK, check wire connection.

Wire Connection, Checking

- Connect test box (VAG1598/31) to wiring harness of Engine Control Module (ECM), refer to Repair Information.

- Check the following wire connection for open circuit/short circuit:

- Repair open circuit in wiring or short circuit if necessary.

- Check EVAP system hose setup for proper seal or throughput.

- If wire connection and hose setup are OK, replace Engine Control Module (ECM), refer to Repair Information and generate readiness code again => [ Readiness Code, Generating ] Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes.
