Compression Check: Testing and Inspection






Compression, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Spark plug removal tool (3122B)

Compression tester (VAG 1763)

Test Conditions

Engine oil temperature at least 30° C (86° F).

Battery voltage at least 12.7 volts

Test Sequence

- Remove the engine cover - 1 and 2 - upward.





- Remove the hose - 1 -.





- Disconnect the hose - 1 -.





- Unclip the hose - 2 -.

- Remove the air intake tube - arrows -.

- Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connectors - 2 -.





- Remove the ignition coils.

- Using the (3122B), remove the spark plugs.

- Open the throttle valve completely.

- Check the compression pressure using the (VAG 1763).

Using the tester, refer to the operating instructions.

- Operate the starter until the (VAG 1763) shows no further pressure increase.

Assembly is performed in the reverse order of removal, noting the following:

The following step must be performed after the engine compression test.

Query the fault memory and erase, if necessary.

Use the (VAS 5051) to do so.
