Upper Control Arms

Upper Control Arms

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Torque wrench (40-200 Nm) (VAG 1332)

• Ring spanner insert AF 16 (VAG 1332/14)

• Pliers (T40067)

• Ruler

Removing

- Place the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on the Hoist and on its Wheels ] Positioning Vehicle on the Hoist and on its Wheels.

- Remove the air spring damper. Refer to => [ Air Spring Damper ] Air Spring Damper.

- Secure the air spring damper with protective covers in a vise.

- Remove both upper control arms.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Observe the following when doing so:

- Install both upper control arms to the mounting bracket.

- Set both control arms before tightening.

Control Arm, Setting

- Position a ruler - A -.





Dimension - a - = 87 ± 2 mm

- Adjust the front upper control arm to dimension - a - and tighten to the specification Refer to - item 1 - in => [ Mounting Bracket, Upper Control Arms and Air Spring Damper Assembly Overview ] Mounting Bracket, Upper Control Arms and Air Spring Damper Assembly Overview.

- After tightening without any additional turns, check the adjustment and repeat if necessary.

- Position the ruler - A -.





Dimension - b - = 73 ± 2 mm

- Adjust the rear upper control arm to dimension - a - and tighten to the specification. Refer to - item 1 - in => [ Mounting Bracket, Upper Control Arms and Air Spring Damper Assembly Overview ] Mounting Bracket, Upper Control Arms and Air Spring Damper Assembly Overview.

- After tightening without any additional turns, check the adjustment and repeat if necessary.

- Tighten the control arm threaded connections.

- Tighten the upper control arm bolts to the mounting bracket. Refer to - item 1 - in => [ Mounting Bracket, Upper Control Arms and Air Spring Damper Assembly Overview ] Mounting Bracket, Upper Control Arms and Air Spring Damper Assembly Overview.





- Install the wheel and tighten.

- Place vehicle on wheels => [ Positioning Vehicle on the Hoist and on its Wheels ] Positioning Vehicle on the Hoist and on its Wheels.
