Telephone System

CAUTION!
This section refers to components of the communication systems available in Europe and not all apply to communication systems used in USA and Canada.

The Audi-Motorola Digital telephone is available as an option and works in conjunction with the Telematics system. The Telephone/Telematics system is linked to the Communication system via the CAN-Bus to the Data Bus On Board Diagnostic Interface (J533).

The baseplate/cradle for the telephone handset (Telephone Baseplate (R126)) is located in the center console. When the telephone handset is removed from the baseplate, it functions as a normal cellular telephone, i.e. no interaction with vehicle systems (Telematics, MMI or other) is possible.

When the telephone handset is docked, telephone functions are performed either with the telephone handset or Multimedia Control Head (E380). Information is displayed on either of the two Multimedia Interface (MMI) displays.

Two microphones in Microphone Unit (in front roof module) (R164) that support the voice recognition system are integrated in the front roof module (Front Interior Light (W1)).

Before troubleshooting or servicing, technicians must be familiar with the functions and operation specifics of the Telephone/Telematic System. Always read the Telephone/Telematic system owner's manual and review applicable system functions.

Information on Bluetooth(R) technology

Bluetooth(R) technology is a radio communication standard used for transferring data between Telephone Transceiver (R36) and Telephone Handset (R37)/Cellular Telephone (R54).

An additional telephone transceiver is located in the Telephone Transceiver (R36). A separate Bluetooth(R) Antenna (R152) connects Telephone Transceiver (R36) and Telephone Baseplate (R126)/Cellular Telephone (R54) so that Telephone Handset (R37)/Cellular Telephone (R54) can be operated wearilessly, thus without a wire connection.

Signal range of radio connection is approx. 10 m.

On Board Diagnostic

The Telephone/Telematic system has extensive On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capabilities.

In the event that malfunctions occur in any Communication system, troubleshooting is performed using the in the " Guided Fault Finding" operating mode.
