Condition
Noises are heard in the central area of the dashboard during driving.
Technical Background
Various clearance issues within the instrument panel trim strip.
Production Solution
Reduced free play in the components that comprise the trim strip assembly.
Felt adhesive tape has been placed on the two clips on the top row of switches (Figure 9).
Paste G 060 172 A3 has been applied on the contact surfaces of the switches to the module and the trim strip (Figure 10).

1. Remove the instrument panel trim strip with the switches.

2. Carefully tighten the two Phillips head screws on the back of the switch plate (Figures 2 and 3).

3. Check the two clamping washers for tight fit. In Figure 4 (yellow circle) the clamping washer is not fully seated.
4. Place the assembly face side down on a soft surface.
NOTE: The surface must be soft to avoid scratches and damage to the assembly.

5. Using a 6 mm socket with an extension, carefully press down on the clamping washer. In some cases a light tap with a small hammer may be required to fully seat the washer (Figure 6).

6. Apply a thin layer of felt 533 867 910A on both clips on the top row of switches.

7. Cover the contact surfaces of the trim strip with paste G06 172A3.
