Hot steam and/or hot coolant can escape when the expansion tank is opened. Wrap a cloth around the filler cap and open carefully.

Open the coolant expansion tank and insert the first of the four silicate cartridges -1- into the expansion tank.

Press each of the cartridges -1- carefully past the MIN mark -2- in the tank without damaging the silicate cartridge

The correct positioning of the silicate cartridges -1- is shown in the illustration.

On vehicles on which the coolant expansion tank has no MIN mark, the four silicate cartridges should be positioned as shown in the illustration. 3 Two silicate cartridges -3- are inserted in one chamber of the tank.

^ Update Programming via Software Version Management

The following SVM code will automatically update any or all of the following control modules:

Note:
The VAS 5051B or 5052 tester MUST be running base software level 10 or greater to perform this update. VAS 5051A can not be used for the update programming. Attempting this update without the required base software will result in engine and/or transmission control module failure which will require replacement of the affected control modules.

- Engine Control Modules and Transmission for AB's with W12 engine ONLY

- Address words 01 and 11

- Part No: 4E0 910 018 B to SW level 0050 or higher

- Part No: 4E0 910 018 J to SW level 0030 or higher

- Address word 02 to SW level 0110 or higher

Note:
Any Update Programming procedure (flash) may overwrite any "TUNED" ECM or TCM programming. A "TUNED" ECM or TCM is described as any ECM or TCM altered so as to perform outside the normal parameters and specifications approved by Audi of America, Inc.

Current Tuned ECM or TCM requirements: If you encounter a vehicle with a " Tuned" ECM or TCM, your dealership must do the following before performing any procedure that updates ECM or TCM programming:

- Notify the owner that their ECM or TCM was found to have been tuned

- Notify the owner any damage caused by the tuning of the ECM or TCM (including any adverse emissions consequences) will not be covered by Audi of America, Inc. warranties.

- Obtain the owners written consent (see attached Control Module Tuning form) for any requested repair under warranty or outside warranty that requires flashing, which will automatically overwrite the " Tuned" program.

- Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Control Module, address word 65 to SW Level 0280 or higher

- Battery Energy Manager (BEM), address word 61 to SW level 0510 or higher.

- For A8 or A8L, the BEM (J367) SW Levels must be above 0270 and below 510

Tip:
Vehicles with satellite radio option that is not activated by the customer will have a fault code stored "not active" Please ignore this fault entry if customer has not activated the satellite radio feature.

^ Vehicle requirements: Battery MUST have minimum no-load charge of 12.5V (failure to maintain voltage during update process can lead to Control Module failure). Minimize any voltage draw to vehicle (radio, and other accessories switched OFF, apply Emergency brake to switch running lights OFF if applicable).

^ SVM Action Code: NA4E00JGIK

^ The test plan will automatically load the new software container(s) from the AoA server to the tester. During the flash, when asked " Do you want to view changes that have taken place?" Choose option (1) to view changes, print screen(s) to confirmation update, and attach screen print(s) to vehicle service file.

^ IMPORTANT!
The program may loop back for or suggest additional updates to other control modules. This RVU does not cover time expended on updating (flashing) modules not explicitly stated in this bulletin. Ignore other suggested updates and use prompt to continue. Do not exit the session

^ At prompt to print GFF diagnostic report, choose " yes" and print long version of diagnostic report, attach printout to vehicle warranty file

^ For further SVM update instructions and troubleshooting please refer to the SVM Operating Manual; Elsa Web TSB 2011732

Tip:
The SVM process must be completed in it's entirety so the database receives the update confirmation response. A warranty claim may not be reimbursed if there is no confirmation response to support the claim.
