Steering Wheel: Description and Operation

General Information

Function switches/buttons integrated into the multi-function steering wheel allow the driver to safely operate the radio, telephone (Communication system) and Tiptronic (Automatic Transmission) controls.

In addition, the steering wheel is electrically heated (integrated with the driver's seat heater control).

The control module for multi-function steering wheel -J453- interprets button information and transfers it to the Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module -J527-. Applicable information - instructions are transferred from the control module to individual Communication system control modules via the comfort/convenience CAN bus and Data Bus On Board Diagnostic Interface -J533-.

Before troubleshooting or servicing, technicians must be familiar with the functions and operation specifics of the multifunction steering wheel and applicable communication system as it relates to multi-function steering wheel control. Always read the owner's manual and review applicable system functions.
