Windshield Wiper Motor and Control Module
Wiper Motor With Wiper Motor Control Module J400, Removing And Installing
NOTE: Wiper Motor Control Module J400 is integrated in Windshield Wiper Motor V.
Removing
- If replacing wiper motor with Wiper Motor Control Module J400 use "Guided Fault-Finding" routine to select "Path 09 - electronic central electrics / J400 wiper motor control module, functions / J400 - Replacement".
- Remove rubber seal - 1 - of plenum chamber covers.
- Remove plenum chamber covers - 2 - and - 3 - .
- Remove dust and pollen filter Heating and Air Conditioning
NOTE: Cover air duct at air conditioner housing with clean cloth to stop anything falling in.
Vehicles with 12-cyl. engine:
- Remove cover over coolant expansion tank - arrows - .
All:
- Switch on ignition.
- Actuate flick wipe function and allow wiper arms to move to end position.
- Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
- Pry off caps at wiper arms using a screwdriver.
- Loosen nuts - arrows - , but do not remove completely.
- Loosen wiper arms by gently rocking back and forth at shaft, then remove nuts and detach wiper arms.
- Remove bolts at left and right - arrows - for cowl panel grille - 1 - .
- Carefully pull cowl panel grille off fastener at windscreen.
- Remove dome brace - arrow - .
- Remove bolts - 1 - and - 2 - .
- Detach holder - 3 - for dome brace.
- Remove bolts - arrows - and remove entire wiper frame.
- Unplug connector - 1 - .
- Remove nut - 2 - and detach crank from wiper motor.
- Detach wiper motor from wiper frame - arrows - .
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
- Screw wiper motor without crank to wiper frame - arrows - .
- Plug in connector.
- Switch on ignition.
- Actuate flick wipe function and allow wiper motor to move to end position.
NOTE:
- Every second time wiper motor is switched off it moves to an understroke end position which turns lip of wiper blade in opposite direction.
- To do so, wiper motor moves down beyond its end position and then back up slightly. This understroke end position is not to be used to align wiper crank.
- Use must be made of end setting at which wiper motor moves directly and with no understroke to its end position. Actuate flick wipe function again if necessary.
- Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
- Install crank - 2 - with drive rod - 1 - loosely in position on wiper shaft.
- Align crank with wiper frame.
- Crank must be positioned between marks - arrows - .
- Hold crank in position with open-ended wrench and tighten nut - 3 - .
- Switch on ignition.
- Actuate flick wipe function and allow wiper motor to move to end position.
- Check whether crank is positioned between marks and re-align if necessary.
- Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
- Install wiper motor with wiper frame in vehicle.
- Install dome brace. As well as following bolts:
1. Combi bolts, 45 Nm
2. Combi bolts, 3 Nm
NOTE: Disregard - item 3 - , - item 4 - and - arrow - .
- As well as following bolts:
1. Combi bolts, 9 Nm
NOTE: Disregard items - 24 - .
