Suspension strut, servicing





1. Protective cap
^ Preinstalled on shock absorber
2. Rubber Insert
^ Preinstalled on shock absorber
3. Spring support
4. Spacer ring
^ The spacer ring is only present on "Bilstein" shock absorbers.
^ It should not be put on shock absorbers of a different make!
5. Gas-filled shock absorber
^ Individually replaceable
^ Application

^ Dispose of properly
^ Check shock absorber for leaks and noises

Function test





Press together shock absorber by hand. It should be possible to push in piston rod smoothly and with uniform force over its entire travel.
If there is enough gas pressure in the shock absorber, the push rod returns to its initial position.
If push rod does not return by itself to its initial position, it is still possible that the shock absorber is in good condition, if there is oil loss.

6. Coil spring

^ Check for paint damage, repair if necessary

^ After the spring is installed, its ends should lie in stop of rubber inserts.
7. Spring support with protective tube
^ Consists of two parts
8. Stop buffer
9. Shock absorber mount
10. Self-locking hex nut, 27 Nm
^ Always replace after disassembly
