Pyrotechnic Belt Tensioners, Safety And Handling Instructions

- Checking, removing, installing and servicing may ONLY be performed by qualified personnel.
- Never perform tests using a test lamp, volt meter or ohm meter.
- Only check belt tensioner units when installed using suitable diagnostic operation systems (e.g. Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing Info. System VAS 5051 B).
- Voltage supply must be disconnected before any work can be performed on the belt tensioners.
- Observe safety precautions with disconnecting battery.
- Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap, cover negative battery post. No waiting time is required after disconnecting the battery.
- No person may be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
- Observe safety precautions after connecting battery.
- Ensure that all of the mechanical parts and those for the three-point seat belt are correctly attached when the belt tensioner unit is connected.
- Only the person working on the belt tensioner is allowed in the vehicle interior while the work is being performed.
- NEVER open or attempt to repair belt tensioner components; always use new parts.
- DO NOT install belt tensioner units that have fallen onto a hard surface, or which have signs of damage.
- Always replace belt tensioner units which have experienced mechanical damage (dents, cracks).
- ALWAYS install belt tensioner units in the vehicle, as soon as they are removed from the packaging.
- If installation work is interrupted, IMMEDIATELY return the belt tensioner unit to its original packaging.
- NEVER aim the open end of the belt tensioner at anyone.
- Wash hands after handling belt tensioners that have ignited.
- Belt tensioner storage and transportation are covered under explosive substance laws.
- NEVER leave a belt tensioner unattended.
- NEVER treat the belt tensioner unit with grease, cleaning products or anything similar.
- Belt tensioner unit must NEVER (not even briefly) be exposed to temperatures above 100 degrees C.
