Mode 6 Data

Mode 6: Check Test Results Of Components That Are Not Continuously Monitored

This diagnostic mode displays the test results of emission relevant components and systems which are not continuously monitored.

The values of the individual test results must reach the specified value or must be within the min.- and max.- limits.

Test-ID Components
01: Catalytic converter
03: Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system
05: Tank ventilation system

Test-ID 01: Catalytic Converter

Test requirements:
- No DTCs in DTC memory; check DTC memory see "Mode 3: Check DTC memory" Mode 3: Check DTC Memory
- Coolant temperature at least 80 degrees C see "Mode 1: Check measuring values "; "PID 05: Coolant temperature". Mode 1: Check Measured Values

Procedure

WARNING: To reduce the risk of accident during road tests, always observe safety precautions

- Connect diagnostic tester. [1][2]Diagnostic Tester, Connecting
- Perform a 15 minutes road test in the highest gear or in the highest driving mode on a level driving surface.

The following operating conditions must be met during this road test:
- Engine speed 1800 to 2200 RPM See"Mode 1: Check measuring values "; "PID 12: Engine rotations per minute". Mode 1: Check Measured Values
- Vehicle speed constant 90 km/h See"Mode 1: Check measuring values "; "PID 13: Vehicle speed". Mode 1: Check Measured Values

- Let engine run at idle.
- In diagnostic function "33 - OBD", select "Mode 6: Check test results of components that are not continuously monitored".
- Select the "Test-ID 01: Catalytic converter" off.
- Check specified values at idle.

NOTE: Bank 1 = cylinder bank 1 in direction of travel, right; Bank 2 = cylinder bank 2 in direction of travel, left.

Catalytic conversion Specified value1)
Bank 1 120,000 max.
Bank 2 120,000 max.

1) Control module internal calculated value

- End diagnosis and switch ignition off.

If the specified values are exceeded:
- Replace the respective front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter

Final procedures
After repair work, the following work steps must be performed in the mentioned sequence:
1. Check DTC memory see"Mode 3: Check DTC memory" Mode 3: Check DTC Memory
2. If necessary, erase DTC memory see"Mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data". Mode 4: Reset/Erase Diagnostic Data
3. Generate readiness code. Readiness Code, Generating

- End diagnosis and switch ignition off.

Test-ID 03: Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System

Test requirements:
- No DTCs in DTC memory; check DTC memory see "Mode 3: Check DTC memory" Mode 3: Check DTC Memory

Let vehicle cool off with the ignition switched off until the following conditions are met:
- Intake air temperature 10 to 50 degrees C see "Mode 1: Check measuring values "; "PID 15: Intake air temperature". Mode 1: Check Measured Values
- Coolant temperature approximately Intake Air Temperature (10 to 50 degrees C) see "Mode 1: Check measuring values "; "PID 05: Coolant temperature". Mode 1: Check Measured Values

Procedure
- Connect diagnostic tester. [1][2]Diagnostic Tester, Connecting
- Start engine and let run 15 minutes at idle.
- In diagnostic function "33 - OBD", select "Mode 6: Check test results of components that are not continuously monitored".
- Select the "Test-ID 03: Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system"
- Check specified values at idle.

NOTE: Bank 1 = cylinder bank 1 in direction of travel, right; Bank 2 = cylinder bank 2 in direction of travel, left.

Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Specified value1)
system

Bank 1 min. 51,000
Bank 2 min. 51,000

1) Control module internal calculated value

- End diagnosis and switch ignition off.

If the specified values are not reached:
- Check secondary air system for proper seal. Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System, Checking For Proper Seal
- Check Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Pump Motor -V101-

Final procedures
After repair work, the following work steps must be performed in the mentioned sequence:
1. Check DTC memory See "Mode 3: Check DTC memory". Mode 3: Check DTC Memory
2. If necessary, erase DTC memory see "Mode 4: Reset/erase diagnostic data". Mode 4: Reset/Erase Diagnostic Data
3. Generate readiness code. Readiness Code, Generating

- End diagnosis and switch ignition off.

Test-ID 05: Tank Ventilation System

Test requirements:
- No DTCs in DTC memory; check DTC memory see "Mode 3: Check DTC memory" Mode 3: Check DTC Memory
- Coolant temperature 80 to 110 degrees C see "Mode 1: Check measuring values "; "PID 05: Coolant temperature". Mode 1: Check Measured Values
- Throttle valve angle 12.0 to 16.0% see "Mode 1: Check measuring values "; "PID 17: Throttle valve position (absolute)". Mode 1: Check Measured Values

Procedure
- Connect diagnostic tester. [1][2]Diagnostic Tester, Connecting
- Start engine and let run 15 minutes at idle.
- In diagnostic function "33 - OBD", select "Mode 6: Check test results of components that are not continuously monitored".
- Select the "Test-ID 05: Tank ventilation system".
- Check specified values at idle.

NOTE: Bank 1 = cylinder bank 1 in direction of travel, right; Bank 2 = cylinder bank 2 in direction of travel, left.
