^ VAG1869 Brake filling and bleeding tool

Basic setting is used for vehicles with EDL to bleed the EDL - specific areas in the hydraulic unit.

Basic setting is only necessary if at least one cavity of the brake fluid return reservoir is completely empty (e.g. due to leaks in brake system).

When refilling brake fluid with filling and bleeding tool, e.g. VAG18869, make sure that the fill pressure of 1 bar is not exceeded.

If the fill pressure is greater than 1 bar, it hinders a hydraulically activated change - over valve for the EDL control, and the bleeding of the EDL specific areas in the hydraulic unit. Proper bleeding is not guaranteed.

Therefore, brake fluid pressure of filling and bleeding tool VW1238/1 and VAG1869 is set to 1 bar - Operating instructions for VW1238/1, VAG1869

VAG1238/B is not suited for bleeding brake system during "Basic setting" function
If only this tool is available, check VAG1238/B by switching unit on/off as necessary to ensure sufficient brake fluid is available in the reservoir.
- Connect filling and bleeding tool, e.g. VAG1869.
- Connect VAG1551 and select address word 03 "Brake Electronics". Scan Tool VAG1551/1552 or VAS5051 Connecting/Selecting Function

- Press buttons 0 and 4 for function "Basic setting."

- Press Q button to confirm input.

Notes: During the next work step the ABS warning light flashes 4 times per second.

The following work cycle is to be repeated 8 times according to the specified sequence for basic setting with the VAG1551.

- Activate pedal with high foot pressure and hold.

- Bleed the brake system.
