Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 B, connecting and selecting function

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required





^ Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 B
^ Diagnostic cable, 3 m with power supply 3 m VAS 5051/1 or Diagnostic cable, 5 m without power supply VAS 5051/3
^ The Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 / VAS 5051A, Vehicle Diagnostic and Service Information System VAS 5052 or Diagnostic System VAS 5053 can also be used.

CAUTION! Measurement and testing procedures should be performed as follow to avoid risk of accident:
Audi TT Coupe:
^ To read out measured value blocks, only Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051B or Vehicle Diagnosis and Service Information System VAS 5052 may be used. The device must always be secured on rear side and operated from there by a second person.
^ Due to space restrictions, the passenger seat must be moved all the way forward and the backrest must be moved all the way forward while engaged using the backrest adjustment hand wheel. The backrest release lever must not be used for this.

Audi TT Roadster:
^ With the Audi TT Roadster, only the Vehicle Diagnosis and Service Information System VAS 5052 may be used with passenger airbag deactivated.
^ Switch off passenger airbag using key switch in glove compartment or via On Board Diagnostic Body.
^ After completing the work, the passenger airbag should be reactivated.





Audi TT
- Remove Data Link Connector (DLC) cover.





- Connect Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 B with diagnostic cable VAS 5051/1 or VAS 5051/3 to diagnostic connector with ignition switched off.
- Turn on tester - arrow -.

The tester is ready for operation when a picture (photo) of a vehicle is displayed.

Access in "Guided Fault Finding":
- Switch on ignition.
- Touch button/field on screen: "Guided Fault Finding".
^ Select one after the other:
^ Brand
^ Model
^ Model year
^ Version
^ Engine code
- Confirm data entered.

Wait until tester has interrogated all control modules in vehicle.

- Change to "System test plan".

Note: Functions, e.g. Measured value blocks, etc. can be called up via "Function/component selection".

Now follow information given on screen to start desired functions.
