Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Locking pin (T10060 A)
Observe notes on contact corrosion. Refer to => [ Contact Corrosion ] Contact Corrosion.
Removing
- With ignition switched off, disconnect battery ground wire. Refer to => [ Battery in Engine Compartment, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery In Engine Compartment, Disconnecting and Connecting.
- Remove the noise insulation - 1 -.
- Remove the right front wheel housing liner.
- Remove the fan shroud.
Risk of destroying if the running direction of a used ribbed belt is reversed.
• Before removing ribbed belt, marking running direction with chalk or a felt-tip pen for reinstallation.
- To release the tension on the ribbed belt, turn the tensioning element clockwise - arrow -.
- Secure the tensioning element with the (T10060 A).
- Remove ribbed belt.
- Disconnect the connector - 2 - on the A/C compressor regulator valve (N280).
Danger of damaging the A/C compressor, the coolant pipes and coolant hoses.
• Do not stretch, bend or kink the coolant pipes and hoses.
- Remove the bolts - arrows - and remove the A/C compressor - 1 - with the coolant lines still connected.
- Remove the engine cover - arrows -.
- Remove screws - 1 - and - 3 -.
- Disconnect the electrical connector - 4 -.
- Open the clamp - 5 - on the intake flap motor (V157) and remove the air guide pipe - 2 -.
- Remove bolt - 1 -.
• Ignore items - 2 and 3 -.
- Remove the bolt - 1 -.
- Remove the bolt - 2 - and nut - 3 -.
- Remove the hose bracket - 4 - on the fuel filter and lay the fuel filter - 7 - to the side with the hoses still connected.
• If necessary remove the fuel hoses on the bracket.
• Ignore items - 5 and 6 -.
- Remove bolt - 2 -.
- Move the generator forward and disconnect the connector - 3 -.
- Pry off the cap - 2 - and remove the nut - 1 - for the 30/B+ terminal.
- Remove the nut - 4 - and remove the clamp.
- Remove the bolt - 1 - and remove the generator - 3 - downward and to the right while moving the A/C compressor in the driving direction and to the left.
• If alternator sticks in holder, install screw again down as far as the last 2 turns.
• Tap carefully on screw heads with flat side of hammer to release alternator mount bushings.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
- Slightly drive back sleeves for the bolts in order for easier installation of generator.
• Tight sleeves for generator mount must be made smooth-running, otherwise clamping force of sleeve is too little despite correct torque.
- Install the air guide pipe.
- Install the A/C compressor.
- Install the fan shroud.
- Mount the ribbed belt on the belt pulley.
1. Crankshaft
2. Tensioning element
3. Generator
4. A/C Compressor
- Hold the tensioner and open end wrench and remove the (T10060 A).
- Release the tension on the tensioner.
• When installing the ribbed belt, make sure it is seated correctly on the belt pulley.
- Connect battery. Required actions => Battery In Engine Compartment, Disconnecting and Connecting.
- Start engine and check belt routing.
- Install the right front wheel housing liner.
- Install the noise insulation.
