Generator

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Locking pin (T10060 A)

Observe notes on contact corrosion. Refer to => [ Contact Corrosion ] Contact Corrosion.

Removing






- With ignition switched off, disconnect battery ground wire. Refer to => [ Battery in Luggage Compartment, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery In Luggage Compartment, Disconnecting and Connecting.

- Remove right front wheel.

- Remove the noise insulation in the center - attachments 1 through 3 -.

- Remove the noise insulation on the right side - attachments 1 through 3 -.






- Remove the air guide cover - 1 -.






- Unclip the air guide - 2 -.

- Remove vacuum hose - 2 - at the air filter guide hose.






- Remove the air guide hose - 1 - on the throttle valve control module (J338).

- Disconnect the mass airflow sensor (G70) connector - item 3 -.

- Remove the air filter housing upper section - arrow -.

- Remove the filter.

- Remove the air filter housing lower section - arrows -.






- Disconnect the secondary air hose at the locations identified by an - arrow -.






- Free up the air hose leading to the secondary air pump.

- Remove the upper fan shroud screws - upper arrows -.














Risk of destroying if the running direction of a used ribbed belt is reversed.

Before removing ribbed belt, marking running direction with chalk or a felt-tip pen for reinstallation.

- Tilt tensioner in - direction of arrow - to relieve ribbed belt tension and secure with locking pin (T10060 A).

- Remove ribbed belt.

- Free up the lower coolant hose on the fan shroud.






- Disconnect the connector - 3 - on the secondary air injection pump motor (V101) and free up the wire.

- Remove the coolant pipe bracket - 2 -.

- Remove screws - 1 -.

- Loosen the bolt - 4 - and remove the secondary air pump and bracket.

- Disconnect the connector - 1 - for the lower radiator fan on the fan shroud.






- Remove the bolts for the lower fan shroud - lower arrows -.

- Remove the fan shroud with both fans.

- Disconnect the magnetic clutch connector - 1 - on the A/C compressor and free up the wire.







Do not open A/C refrigerant circuit.

- Remove A/C compressor bolts - arrows -.

- Tie up the A/C compressor with the coolant hoses still connected at the front to the longitudinal member.

- Detach wire- 1 - at generator.






- Disconnect electrical connector - 2 -.

Disregard item - 3 -.

- Remove upper idler pulley - 1 -.






- Remove the generator bolts - 2 - and - 3 -.

The generator can only be removed with the upper bolt still installed.

If alternator sticks in holder, turn bolt back in again down to the last 2 turns.

Tap carefully on screw heads with flat side of hammer to release alternator mount bushings.

- Remove generator from accessories bracket.

- Remove generator downward and to the left.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

- Slightly drive back sleeves for retaining bolts in order for easier installation of generator.

Tight sleeves for generator mount must be made smooth-running, otherwise clamping force of sleeve is too little despite correct torque.

All assemblies (generator, A/C compressor) must be installed securely before installing ribbed belt.

- Mount the ribbed belt on the ribbed belt pulley - 1 through 7 -.






- Check ribbed belt for correct seating.

- Connect battery. Required actions => Battery In Luggage Compartment, Disconnecting and Connecting.

- Start engine and check belt routing.

Tightening Specifications
