Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 20 number 07 - 07SS dated November 30, 2007 for reasons listed below.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
CONDITION
Fuel line resonance (pulse) perceived as rattling noise from passenger's side floor or footwell area.
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
Fuel lines contacting vehicle underbody creating noise. This description only refers to casual contact between the fuel lines and underbody. Damage to the fuel lines does not result from this contact.
PRODUCTION SOLUTION
SERVICE
Position and install fuel line insulators (Part No. 06A 141 730 A) where indicated:
1. Remove right side underbody cover shown in Figure 1.
2. Locate black fuel line inside frame channel shown in Figure 2.
Final position of insulators should be located inside frame channel, where indicated in Figure 2.
3. Remove foam insulating block at rear of frame channel.
4. Slice insulator Part No. 06A 141 730 A lengthwise on one side to enable installation onto fuel line.
5. Install insulator as shown in Figure 3.
6. Apply tape or small tie-rap around insulator on line. Do not apply tape or tie-rap tightly. The insulator must be able to slide on fuel line. A soap/water mixture may be applied to the line to ease insulator installation.
7. Move insulator into frame channel so that it is positioned halfway between rear of channel and oval access hole, as illustrated in Figure 2.
8. Install insulator around the black fuel line through the oval access hole in the frame channel as shown in Figure 4.
9. Move the insulator forward into frame channel and position where indicated in Figure 2. Move insulator carefully so that it does not slide off of fuel line inside frame channel.
10. Install the foam insulator at the rear of the frame channel as shown in Figure 5.
11. Install right side underbody cover. Tighten fasteners to 2 Nm (20 in.-lbs.).
12. Road test vehicle and verify noise is eliminated.
