Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 60 number 08-01 dated February 15, 2008 for reasons listed below.

60 Squeaking/grinding noise from B-pillar area

Condition

Squeaking/grinding noises from the B-pillar area while driving. Noise can be more pronounced during body flex.

Technical Background

The noise could be caused by contact between the sunroof frame and the body side wall flange.

Production Solution

Plastic strip bonded to the contact area.

Service

1. Test drive the vehicle and confirm the noise. If interference is the cause, the noise will be heard in the roof area near the top of the B-pillar.

2. Turn ignition off and remove ignition key.

3. Remove the rear grab handle.

7. Insert a drift between the frame and head airbag upwards to the contact area of the panel.

NOTE: Check the correct position through the hole of the grab handle on the B pillar side. Exercise caution when working in the area of the head airbag unit so as not to damage it during this procedure.

Figure 5:

Figure 5 shows the correct drift position and point of engagement with the roof frame with the headliner removed. It is not necessary to remove the headliner for this procedure.

WARNING: Wear safety glasses.

8. A moderate strike to the drift with a hammer should be all that is necessary to create clearance between the sunroof frame and the body side wall flange.

9. Test drive the vehicle to ensure that the noise is no longer present.

10. Reinstall the section of the headliner and rear grab handle according to the repair information in ElsaWeb: Body >> Body Interior >> 70 Trim, noise insulation >> Roof trim >> Roof grab handle, removing and installing.
