Body - Sunroof Sun Shade Binds/Won't Retract
Group: 60Number: 06-02
Date: Jan. 24, 2006
Subject:
Sunroof Sunshade Binds Or Does Not Retract
Model(s):
A3 2006 --> to VIN 8P_6A064118
Condition
After opening the front sunshade, the sunshade does not retract. It may stop midway through its travel toward the folded position.
Possible cause:
Front sunshade slides may bind in their guides and prevent roller from fully retracting. Generally there is no fault with the roller mechanism itself.
Production
Improved sunshade slides have been employed as of VIN 8P_6A064118. If sunshade exhibits the above condition and vehicle VIN is below this specified VIN, replace sunshade slides.
Service
It is not necessary to remove headliner, sunshade or sliding roof glass panel to replace sunshade slides.
Replace sunshade slides as follows:
- Open sunshade fully.
- Open sunroof to full open position.
- Remove sunroof cover plates on both sides, carefully unclipping the covers away from sunroof module and toward center of vehicle.
- Slide sunshade forward and disconnect front rail from slides. The rail is released by compressing clips as shown.
- Front rail then pivots away from slides and the sunshade can then be retracted out of the way.
- Front rail is then pushed up and away from guide rails.
- The slides can now be removed and reinstalled from their guides toward the rear as shown.
- When reinstalling sunshade, make certain that front rail is centered before securing it to slides by checking that front latch and pin align properly.
