RVU - Sunshade latch inoperative (IZ)
Condition
This RVU has been proactively released to prevent the following condition from occurring in the vehicle:
The front sunshade latch may break, preventing sunshade closure. The broken pieces may rattle.
This Required Vehicle Update (RVU) is in effect for 15 months from date of publication. After that date, this RVU will expire and no longer be in effect.
Vehicle must meet ALL of the following criteria.
1. Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the IZ code in the ElsaWeb Campaign/Action Information screen on the day of repair.
2. Vehicle must be within the Limited New Vehicle Warranty.
3. Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical Service Bulletin.
Procedure must also be performed on applicable vehicles in Dealer inventory.
Technical Background
Weak sunshade latch.
Production Solution
Improved latch.
Service
Replace the front sunshade support. The entire sunshade does not need to be replaced for this condition. The sunshade support can be replaced as follows:
1. Open the roller blind fully. Open the sunroof to its full open position.
2. Remove sunroof cover plates on both sides, carefully unclipping the covers away from the sunroof module toward the center of the vehicle.
3. Slide the roller blind forward and disconnect the front rail from the slides. The rail is released by compressing the clips as shown.
4. The front rail then pivots away from the slides and the roller blind can then be retracted out of the way.
5. Remove the tab on one side of the rail channel where the shade material is coupled. The same tab will be removed on the replacement support.
6. The old support can now be removed by sliding it off of the cloth. It is very important to not let go of the cloth while the support is apart from the cloth. It is under spring tension and if released will retract and the sunshade will be damaged.
7. Install the new support.
