Rear Suspension (AWD)



Subframe with attachments, removing and installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required





^ Torque wrench V.A.G 1332





^ Engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A

Remove subframe with attachments

Note:
^ For later operations, make sure that vehicle is standing on its wheels when collar bolt for drive axle is loosened. Loosen collar bolt for drive axle.

- Remove wheels.
- Remove coil springs.
- Remove rear muffler of exhaust system.
- Disconnect electrical wires from Haldex clutch, ABS wheel speed sensor and on vehicles with automatic vertical headlight aim control disconnect and unclip electrical harness connectors.





- Remove bolt - arrow -.





- Pry off circlip - 1 - for parking brake cable.
- Press brake lever - 2 - in direction of - arrow - and disengage parking brake cable - 3 -.





- Remove hex bolt - 1 - detach parking brake cable - 2 - from bracket.





- Disconnect brake lines item - 1 - and - 2 -.





- Mark installation position of mounting bracket at mount.
- Remove bolts - arrows -.





- Check whether there is a factory marking (colored marking) on flexible disc and on flange at Haldex coupling - arrows -. If not, mark position of flexible disc and of flange at the Haldex coupling relative to each other - arrows -.





- Remove rear drive shaft tube with flexible disc and vibration damper from rear final drive - arrows -.





- Unthread bolts for center bearing - arrows - two turns.





- Support driveshaft at tunnel support using a wooden block
- Push rear driveshaft tube as far as possible in direction of transmission.

CAUTION: Before LOOSENING subframe bolts, secure vehicle against tipping (e.g. load luggage compartment with approximately 50 kg).





- Place engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A with universal transmission support V.A.G 1359/2 under subframe and secure using tension strap.





- Remove hex bolts - 1 - and - 2 -.

Note:
^ For better illustration, only left side of vehicle is shown.

- Carefully lower subframe with attachments.

Note:
^ When lowering, make sure that there is enough clearance for brake lines, electrical wires and driveshaft centering pin.

Install subframe with attachments
Installation is performed in reverse order of removal. Note:
Mount driveshaft to rear final drive.
- Subframe mounting holes must be aligned centrally with mounting points on body.
- Bleed brake system.
- Perform vehicle alignment.

Suspension adjustment at front/rear axle must be performed on a Audi approved wheel alignment machine.
