DTC 1064 Terminal 58d interior light dimmer, short circuit to B+ Stored in DTC Memory





Interior switch illumination is ON all the time with vehicle key removed from ignition switch and light switch in OFF position.

May result in a discharged battery.





DTC 1064 is stored in Electronic central electrics module (address 09).

Technical Background





Rear courtesy light W43 is internally shorted, effectively connecting the interior light dimmer to battery positive voltage (arrow), and causing switch illumination to stay ON.

Service

- Ensure ignition is switched OFF and ignition key is removed.

- Ensure light switch is in OFF position.

- Disconnect rear courtesy light.

If interior switch illumination turns OFF:

- Replace rear courtesy light.

- Inspect replacement rear courtesy light for shorted condition prior to installation.





- Ensure that the interior light dimmer is NOT shorted to battery positive voltage (arrow).

- Erase fault code in Electronic central electrics module.

- Check state of charge of vehicle battery with Midtronics Tester.

- Charge battery if necessary.
