VAS 5051 or VAG 1551, Connecting

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system ( VAS 5051)

Test Requirements

Battery voltage at least 11 V

Ground (GND) connections at engine and transmission OK

Engine off

Automatic transmission in the "P" or "N" position

Procedure

- Switch off the ignition and connect the VAS 5051 with accessory pack (VAS 5050/1). Alternatively, connect the scan tool (V.A.G 1551) with the diagnosis lead for the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system ( VAS 5051 ).





The following description only covers the procedure for On Board Diagnostic (OBD) when using the scan tool (V.A.G 1551).

When using vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system (VAS 5051), follow the procedures described in the operating instructions for the tester.

If display screen remains blank, refer to => Operating instructions for scan tool.

- Switch the ignition on.

- Switch on the scan tool printer by pressing Print button. Indicator lamp in button must come on.

- Press button 1 for "Rapid data transfer".

If the following is indicated on display:

Rapid data transfer HELP
Enter address word XX

Address word 00 starts the automatic test sequence, i.e. the fault memories of all vehicle systems with self-diagnosis capability are interrogated by way of rapid data transfer.

- Enter "01" for the address word "Engine electronics " and confirm your entry by pressing the Q button.

The scan tool (VAG 1551) will display the control unit identification details, for example:

3B0907552A 2.7ltr. V6/5V G 0002 ->
Coding 05002 WSC 12345

The control module identification can be printed out by pressing the PRINT button on the scan tool (VAG 1551).
