Procedures

Map Controlled Engine Cooling Thermostat F265, removing and installing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Drip tray for workshop crane VAS 6208
- Hose clamp pliers VAG 1921
Removing
- Lock carrier in service position. Lock Carrier Service Position
- Remove ribbed belt.
- Drain cooling system. Procedures
- Obtain and record radio anti-theft code for vehicles with a coded radio.
- See Caution for disconnecting Telematics battery.
- Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap with ignition switched off.
- Remove coolant hose between radiator and coolant reservoir.
- Remove top coolant hose between coolant pipe and radiator.
Throttle Valve Control Module J338:
- Remove air hose between throttle valve control module (J338) and charge air cooler, and if necessary, remove the throttle valve control module (J338).
- Unbolt generator from bracket.
- Disconnect wiring from generator.
- Remove generator.
- If needed, remove the intake manifold support.
- Remove bolt connecting the lower coolant line to the thermostat housing.
- Remove the bolts holding the thermostat housing to the engine block.
- If necessary, remove bolt that holds the lower coolant line to the oil filter holder.
- Disconnect the hoses from the thermostat housing.
- Disconnect electrical connector from the thermostat housing.
Note: The Map Controlled Engine Cooling Thermostat -F265- and thermostat housing must be replaced as an assembly.
Installing
Install in reverse order, note the following:
- Replace O-ring.
- Clean and/or smooth O-ring sealing surface.
- Moisten new O-ring with coolant.
- Install ribbed belt.
- Fill cooling system.
- See Caution for connecting Telematics battery.
- After connecting battery, enter radio anti-theft code. Radio operating instructions.
- Use electric window lifters to completely close door windows.
- Then actuate all window lifter switches again for at least 1 second in "close" position to activate automatic one-touch function.
- Set clock to correct time.
Tightening torques
Idler wheel for ribbed belt to bracket 25 Nm
Support for intake manifold 20 Nm
Generator to bracket 20 Nm
Hose clamps for coolant hoses 2 Nm
Hose clamps for air hoses 3.5 Nm
Lower coolant line to oil filter holder 20 Nm
Thermostat housing to engine block 15 Nm
