Return Spring With Slip Ring, Removing And Installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required







- Special Screwdriver T8 T 40056







- Diagnostic Operating System VAS 5051 A

Removing
- Removing driver side airbag unit (normal steering wheel).
- Removing driver side airbag unit (sport steering wheel).
- Removing driver side airbag unit (multi-function steering wheel)
- Remove steering wheel (normal steering wheel).
- Remove steering wheel (sport steering wheel).
- Remove steering wheel (multi-function steering wheel).
- Pull steering column all the way out and down.







- Remove Torx bolts - 3 - and - 5- using a Special Screwdriver T8 T 40056, as well as the hex socket bolt
- 4 Tightening torque: 1 Nm
- Separate top trim - 2- for steering column switch from bottom trim - 1 - and remove both parts.







- Disconnect harness connector -1 -.
- Release catch - arrows - carefully and pull return spring with slip ring from steering column switches.

Installing
Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- Make sure that all 3 catches as well as the harness connector are engaged cleanly.
- To install, insert top trim piece into catches of bottom trim piece, press together and bolt.

NOTE:
- Wheels must be in straight-ahead position when removing or installing return ring with slip ring.
- A new return ring with slip ring is secured in the centered position with a cable tie or shear ring.
- For vehicles with ESP sensor in return ring with slip ring, ESP sensor must be calibrated.
