Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Plastigage
Work procedure
• Do not interchange used bearings
• Bearing shells that are worn down to the nickel layer must be replaced.
- Remove main bearing cap and clean bearing cap and journals.
- Place Plastigage over entire width of bearing journal or into bearing shells.
• Plastigage must rest in center of bearing shell.
- Install main bearing cap and tighten to 30 Nm. Do not rotate crankshaft.
- Remove main bearing cap again.
- Compare width of Plastigage with measuring scale.
Radial clearance:
• New: 0.018 to 0.045 mm.
• Wear limit: 0.08 mm.
