Climatronic Control Module A/C Control Head
Climatronic Control Module A/C Control Head
• Depending on the date of manufacture, the A/C control head Climatronic control module has also been designated as A/C control head in various sources of repair information (e.g. in wiring diagrams for vehicles up to model year 2004).
- Remove A/C control head Climatronic control module.
Because there are different versions of the Climatronic control module A/C control head, observe the index of the part number.
• With and without a radio navigation system (radio with large control panel)
• With and without heated seat switch
• With the Off button or the button for "automatic recirculation" (in vehicles with an air quality sensor
• In vehicles starting with model year 2003, only Climatronic control module A/C control heads with a part number starting with index "H" may be installed.
• In vehicles with a 4-cylinder engine with a gasoline direct fuel injection system (FSI), only Climatronic control module A/C control heads with a part number starting with index "H" may be installed.
• In the case of vehicles up to VIN "399999" of model year 2005 (Sedan and Avant) and "012912" of model year 2005 (Cabrio), no Climatronic control module A/C control heads with a part number starting with index "AJ" may be installed.
• In the case of vehicles starting with VIN "400000" of model year 2005 (Sedan and Avant) and "012913" of model year 2005 (Cabrio), only Climatronic control module A/C control heads with a part number starting with index "AJ" may be installed.
• When replacing the Climatronic control module A/C control head, pay attention to the exact allocation.
• After installing a new Climatronic control module A/C control head, perform the basic setting for the A/C system according to specifications. Refer to => [ Basic Setting ] Basic Setting.
• If a new Climatronic control module A/C control head was installed and the basic setting was not performed, the A/C compressor regulator valve is not activated and shutoff condition "6" is displayed in measured value block "2" during the on board diagnostic of the A/C system.
• The selected functions are displayed by illuminated LEDs in the various buttons of A/C control head Climatronic control module.
• In this version of the Climatronic control module A/C control head, the instrument panel interior temperature sensor, the interior temperature sensor fan and the switch for the heated rear window (and the potentiometer for the heated seats) are integrated and not individually replaceable.
• After replacement of the Climatronic control module A/C control head perform the following:
• - Perform the coding of the Climatronic control module A/C control head. Refer to => [ A/C Control Head Climatronic Control Module, Coding ] A/C Control Head Climatronic Control Module, Coding
• Perform the basic setting. Refer to => [ Basic Setting ] Basic Setting
• Query the DTC memory. Refer to => [ DTC Memory, Interrogating ] DTC Memory, Interrogating
• The basic settings (e.g. country version, left or right steering, etc.) of the Climatronic control module A/C control head are coded in this vehicle by the instrument cluster control module. The data is transmitted via the comfort data bus system to the Climatronic control module A/C control head and the currently valid coding is displayed in the measured value block. Direct input of coding into the Climatronic control module A/C control head is provided for certain equipment (e.g. heated windshield, sunroof with solar cells, etc.). Refer to => Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in the "guided fault finding" function.
• The display unit of the temperature display of the Climatronic control module A/C control head in °C or °F is transmitted by the instrument cluster control module and is determined by the coding entered there.
• By simultaneously pressing the "recirculation mode" and " temperature +" buttons for the left side longer than 2 seconds, the display unit can be converted.
• The Climatronic control module A/C control head then transmits the outside temperature with the changed unit to the instrument cluster control module, the instrument cluster control module transmits this change, and the display in the Climatronic control module A/C control head and the outside temperature display in the instrument cluster are performed with the same temperature unit.
• The conversion of the display unit in the Climatronic control module A/C control head applies for all ignition keys.
• Starting in April 2002, Climatronic control module A/C control heads with a part number starting with index "H" (software version " XX15" and higher) will be installed gradually. In these Climatronic control module A/C control heads, the temperature control for the passenger compartment is designed to be slightly cooler.
• Starting with model year 2003, Climatronic control module A/C control heads with a part number starting with index "H" (software version " XX16" and higher) will be installed gradually. These Climatronic control module A/C control heads deviate from the version with software version " XX15" as follows:
• - The temperature control for the passenger compartment in the Audi Cabrio and with an open convertible top was changed and designed to be slightly cooler.
• - The temperature setting range was expanded. 16 °C can now be set as the lowest temperature (previously 18 °C).
• - For the Audi Cabrio, different settings are stored for a closed or open convertible top in the Climatronic control module A/C control head. When opening or closing the convertible top, the setting is automatically changed by the Climatronic control module A/C control head to the value that was last set when the convertible top was closed or open.
• If a number is shown in the display of the Climatronic control module A/C control head, query the DTC memory of the Climatronic control module A/C control head (for example, the number "60" indicates a fault in the interior temperature sensor fan). If the display of the Climatronic control module A/C control head is flashing and if no fault is displayed in the DTC memory (e.g., display "09"), there is a fault in the electronics of the Climatronic control module A/C control head.
Removing
• Remove from vehicles without a radio navigation system or without a radio with a large control panel
- Reach into the center console from above and disengage the Climatronic control module A/C control head from the center console.
• If the Climatronic control module A/C control head cannot be removed, proceed as in vehicles with a radio navigation system.
• Remove from vehicles with a radio navigation system or a radio with a large control panel
- Remove the radio or radio navigation system.
- Reach through this opening and push the Climatronic control module A/C control head out of the center console.
• The Climatronic control module A/C control head is secured in the center console by 4 retaining clips - A -.
• If the instrument panel interior temperature sensor (G56) sends incorrect measurements, check the intake grille on the panel of the Climatronic control module A/C control head (it must not be sealed) and the function of the interior temperature sensor fan (V42).
• When replacing an Climatronic control module A/C control head, observe exact allocation (e.g. with or without switches for heated seats, etc.).
• In the case of an Climatronic control module A/C control head for vehicles without a radio navigation system - A -, a panel- B - with 2 screws - C - is additionally present.
- Disconnect connectors - A - to - D - and - F - by pressing the catches and remove them.
- Unscrew screws - C - and push panel - B - to the right and remove it from the Climatronic control module A/C control head - A -.
- Install in reverse order of removal.
