Connect Test Box To Wiring Harness Of Transmission Control Module (TCM) For Wiring And Component Test - Multitronic Transmission

Recommended special tools and equipment







- Test box V.A.G 1598/21 - vehicles up to model year 2003







- Test box V.A.G 1598/37 - vehicles as of model year 2004


Work procedure
- Switch ignition off.







- Remove quick-release screws -2- and -3- and remove rear noise insulation. Front section of noise insulation remains installed.
- Disengage cover for vehicle floor and heat shield above exhaust system in rear area of transmission and press heat shield aside slightly.







- If present, remove vehicle floor covers at inside left -2- and inside right -1-.







- Disengage harness connector -A- in direction of (arrow) and disconnect it from transmission.

NOTE: Adaptation values in Transmission Control Module (TCM) are reset when disconnecting the harness connector.

- Move wiring harness clear.
- Vehicles until model year 2003: Connect VAG1598/21 test box to wiring harness for Transmission Control Module (TCM).
- Vehicles as of model year 2004: Connect VAG1598/37 test box to wiring harness for Transmission Control Module (TCM).

CAUTION: To avoid damaging electronic components, set measuring range before connecting test leads and observe all test requirements.

Assembling
Assembly is performed in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Final procedures
After connecting harness connector on wiring harness to Transmission Control Module (TCM), the following work steps must be performed in the mentioned sequence:
1. Check DTC memory. Diagnostic Mode 03 - Read DTC Memory
2. If necessary, erase DTC memory. Diagnostic Mode 04 - Erase DTC Memory
3. If DTC memory was erased, generate readiness code.

- End diagnosis and switch ignition off.
