• Before disconnecting battery: Obtain coding of radio.
1 Front Seat
• Removing
CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for work on airbags.
- Push front seat - 1 - fully upward and to the rear.
- Pull assembly cover - 4 - up and remove.
- Pull seat belt anchor - 3 - down in direction of arrow and remove.
- Remove front bolts - 2 - (Qty. 2).
- Move seat forward.
- Remove rear bolts - 2 - (Qty. 2).
- Disconnect battery ground wire.
CAUTION!
Before handling airbag units (e.g. disconnecting electrical connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching door striker, for example.
- Tip front seat - 1 - back.
- Disconnect harness connectors. Refer to => [ Connectors, Disconnecting ] Connectors, Disconnecting.
- Connect airbag adapter. Refer to => [ Airbag Adapter, Connecting ] Airbag Adapter, Connecting.
- With help from a second technician, lift front seat - 1 - out of vehicle.
• Installing
To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order. Observe the following when doing so:

• Before handling airbag units (e.g. disconnecting electrical connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching door striker, for example.
- Remove Airbag Adapter (VAS 6036) only after installing front seat.
• Ensure that electrical connections are pushed in as far as stop and engage with a click.
- Connect connector to couplings on connector station location in floor. Refer to => [ Connectors, Disconnecting ] Connectors, Disconnecting.
- Switch on ignition.
CAUTION!
Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. There must not be anyone inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
- Connect battery ground wire with ignition switched on.
- If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (K75 ) indicates a fault after installation, DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again. Refer to => Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B).
