Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Engine Support Bridge (10 - 222 A)

Procedure

All cable ties which are detached or cut open when removing the transmission must be replaced in the same position when installing.

CAUTION!
Note the instructions for disconnecting the battery.

- With the ignition switched off, disconnect the battery Ground (GND) cable - arrow -.





- Remove the air guide hose - arrow - from the intake manifold.





- Remove the engine hood seal at the fender bolted flanges.

- To prevent damage to bolted flanges of fender when using Engine Support Bridge (10 - 222 A), insert Fender Insert Pad (T40045) on both sides between bolted flange of fender and web plate lying beneath.





1.8 L turbo gasoline engine:

- Loosen the quick-release fasteners - arrows - and remove the engine cover.





- Set Engine Support Bridge (10 - 222 A) onto bolted flanges of fender.





- Remove Engine Sling (2024 A) eyes.





- Re-insert bolts - 1 - in middle engine sling hole and secure with a spring clip.

- Engage the engine support bridge bolt into the Engine Support Bridge (10 - 222 A) spindle.

- Engage the engine sling into the front and rear lifting eye on the engine.

CAUTION!
Mounting hooks and connecting pins on engine sling must be secured with plug connectors - arrows -.

- Pretension the engine on spindle of support bar, but do not lift.

3.0L gasoline engine:

- Remove the engine cover - arrows -.





- Position the Engine Support Bridge (10 - 222 A ) with the (10 - 222 A /1) and (10 - 222 A /3) onto the fender bolted flanges, as illustrated.





- Engage the spindles into the front and rear lifting eyes on the engine.

- To do so, additionally use a Shackle (10 - 222 A /12) on the front side of the engine to avoid damage.

- Pretension the engine on the engine support bridge spindles, but do not lift.

- Remove the front wheels.

- Remove the noise insulation - arrows -.





- Remove the left and right drive axle heat shields - arrows -.





The third bolt is not visible in the illustration.

- Remove the left and right drive axle - 1 - from the transmission flange shaft.

- Remove heat shield - arrows -, if equipped.





- Remove the front exhaust pipe(s) and catalytic converter.

- Remove the noise insulation bracket - 1 -.





- Disconnect electrical connector - 2 - on Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch (F125).

- Swing securing lever - 3 -, disconnect the transmission wiring harness multi-pin connector.

- Cut cable ties - 4 -.

Be sure not to damage the multi-function switch wire.

- Remove the bracket - arrow - for the ATF lines from the engine oil pan.





- Disconnect the connector - arrow A - on the Speedometer Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) (G22) on transmission, if equipped.





- Remove the Engine Speed (RPM) Sensor (G28) - arrow B - from the transmission.

- Place the Oil Collecting and Extracting Device ( V.A.G 1782) the separating joint.





- Mark the ATF pipes if there are no color markings already.

- Disconnect ATF lines - 1 - from ATF cooler.

- Seal any open lines and connections with a clean plug from the Engine Plug Set (VAS 6122).

- Remove transmission side starter bolt - 2 -.

Disregard - 3 -.

- Remove the starter and tie it to the side with wire.

It is not necessary to remove the starter completely in order to get access to the torque converter bolts.

- Remove the 3 torque converter bolts in the opening of the removed starter (turn crankshaft 1/3 revolution further for each bolt).





- Remove the transmission/engine bolts accessible from underneath.

- Remove the driveshaft heat shield - arrows -.





- Remove the driveshaft - 1 - from the transmission. Refer to and lay it on the heat shield - 2 -.





- Mark position of mounting bracket for selector lever cable to transmission housing for re-installation, remove the mounting bracket - arrow -.





- Pry selector lever cable from selector shaft lever using Pry Lever - Rmv Outside Mirror (80 - 200) - arrow -.





- Remove Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch (F125) - arrows - to prevent damage and free up electrical wiring harness.





- Remove left and right engine bracket - A -.





- Mount the Transmission Support (3282) on the Engine/Transmission Jack (V.A.G 1383 A).





- Set Template (3282/19) on to Transmission Support (3282) (template only fits in one position).

- Align the arms of the transmission support to correspond with the holes in the adjustment plate.

- Attach support elements on adjustment plate, as illustrated.

- Move Engine/Transmission Jack (V.A.G 1383 A) with Transmission Mount (3282) under the transmission and support transmission.





The arrow symbol on the adjusting plate points in the direction of travel.

- Align template parallel to transmission and secure mount to transmission using a bolt - A -.

- Fill space between transmission support and oil pan with washers.

- Remove left and right transmission support with transmission mount. Refer to => [ Left and Right Transmission Supports ] 01V,01VA Transmission.

- Audi A4 Cabriolet: remove the rear diagonal braces - 5 - and - 6 -.





- Before loosening subframe, check left and right with the Testing Mandrel (3393) whether at least holes - 1 - and - 2 - align.





If holes do not align, an axle align must be performed after installing subframe!

- Remove bolts - 1 - and - 2 - on back of subframe on both sides.





- Completely remove bolts - 3 - at front of subframe on both sides.

- Remove the 2 bolts - 4 - on the left and right.

- Using the spindles, lower the engine/transmission assembly approximately 8 turns.





- To do this lower engine/transmission assembly using spindles in turn, 2 turns at a time.

- At the same time lower engine/transmission-assembly using Engine/Transmission Jack (V.A.G 1383 A) (second technician).

When lowering transmission, ensure that no components are damaged.

- Remove the remaining engine/transmission bolts - arrows -.





- 2.5L TDI engine: Loosen bolt - 1 - (back of turbocharger) several turns and rotate the strut - 2 - to side in - direction of arrow -.





- Tighten the bolt - A - hand-tight.

The engine is shown in the illustration from behind with the transmission removed.

- Press transmission from engine, thereby press the torque converter out of the driving plate.

- Press torque converter against the ATF pump - arrow -.





- Lower the transmission.

- Secure torque converter in transmission against falling down using Bracket (30 - 211 A).
