ATF Level, Vehicles with Auxiliary ATF Cooler, Checking

ATF level in ATF auxiliary cooler must be checked when the auxiliary cooler was emptied or replaced.

Test Conditions

Transmission not in emergency operating mode.

ATF level in transmission is OK. Refer to => [ ATF, Changing and Filling after a Repair ] ATF, Changing and Filling After a Repair

Move the vehicle onto a 4-column lifting platform or over a work pit so it is completely level.

Exhaust hose/-hoses of an exhaust extraction system connected.

Selector lever in "P", let engine run at idle.

Air conditioning and heater switched off.

Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System ( VAS 5051B) connected, "OBD", Vehicle System " 02 - Transmission Electronics", "Measured Values, Display Group 4" selected.

The ATF temperature must be minimum 85 °C at beginning of test because the thermostat only released the way to the ATF auxiliary cooler at this temperature. Perform a road test if necessary.

Checking ATF temperature

Display on (VAS 5051B):





- Read off ATF temperature indicated in display field - 1 -.

ATF, Checking Level and Correcting

- Stop engine and allow transmission to cool. The ATF temperature must be below 35 °C at the beginning of the test.
