Left Flange Shaft Seal
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Drift (VW 295)
• Driver (2062)
• Puller (T10037)
• Drip Pan (V.A.G 1306) or Drip Tray For VAS6100 (VAS6208)
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)
Removing
• Transmission is installed.
- Observe general repair notes. Refer to => [ General Repair Information ] General Repair Information.
- Remove left front wheel.
- Loosen quick-release connectors - 1 -, remove screws - 2 - and remove noise insulation.
- Remove left drive axle heat shield - arrows - if equipped.
- Remove the drive axle - 1 - from flange shaft and tie as far forward as possible, do not damage surface coating when doing so.
Drip Pan (V.A.G 1306) or Drip Tray For VAS6100 (VAS6208)
- Remove left flange shaft by fastening Puller ( T10037) to differential cover - arrow -.
- Pry out flange shaft sealing ring.
Installing
- Always replace flange shaft circlip.
- Clamp flange shaft in vise, using jaw protectors. Press circlip with new circlip - A - out of flanged shaft groove.
- Lightly oil new seal on outer circumference.
- Drive in new drive flange seal 5.65 ± 0.15 mm below surface of cover, without canting.
- Fill area between sealing lip and dust lip halfway with Sealing Grease (G 052 128 A1).
- Drive in flange shaft using centering mandrel ( VW 295).
- Install the drive axle heat shield.
- Drive axles, installing on flange shafts => Steering and Suspension Steering and Suspension
- Check gear oil level in manual transmission and fill. Refer to => [ Manual Transmission, Checking Gear Oil Level ] 0A3A Transmission.
- Install noise insulation.
Tightening Specifications
