- Position the engine support bridge (10-222 A) with two adapters (10 - 222 A /3) onto the bolted flanges of the fender.

- Engage the spindles onto the engine lifting eyes as shown.

- Take up some of the engine weight by tightening the spindle of the support bar, but do not lift.

- Remove both front wheels and tires.

- On vehicles equipped with an auxiliary heater, remove the bolts - arrows - for the exhaust pipe of the auxiliary heater to the noise insulation.

- Remove the bolts or quick release screws - 1 to 3 - and remove the noise insulation at the front and rear.

- Remove the noise insulation bracket - arrows -.

- Remove the bolts - 1 through 4 - and remove the front crossmember from the vehicle floor.

The flex joint in the front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10 degrees, otherwise it may be damaged.

- Disconnect the exhaust system at both double clamps - arrows -.

- Place the plunger of the engine and transmission jack (VAG 1383 A) with a block of wood - 1 - on the transmission bottom.

- Support the tunnel crossmember using the engine and transmission jack (VAG 1383 A).

- First remove bolts - 1 - and - 2 -, then bolts - 3 - and - 4 -.

- Slowly lower the tunnel crossmember using the engine and transmission jack (VAG 1383 A).

- Remove the nuts - arrows - and remove the tunnel crossmember.
