Shift Interlock Relay: Testing and Inspection






Starter Interlock Alarm System Relay, Checking

- Remove Transmission Control Module (TCM) => [ Transmission Control Module ] 01V,01VA Transmission and place it to one side with connector still attached.

- Turn ignition key to "Start" position.

- Move selector lever from "S" to "P" and back.

It must be possible both to hear and feel the Starter Interlock Alarm System Relay (J60) (in the relay carrier plenum panel E-box, pin location 4) engage





As long as no malfunction is present, the starter can be operated with the selector lever in position "N" or "P"

If the relay does not engage:

- Check Starter Interlock Alarm System Relay (J60 ).

If the relay engages but the starter does not turn:

- Check wiring connections from Starter Interlock Alarm System Relay (J60) to starter terminal 50 following wiring diagram, or check starter respectively.

Check Power Supply to Starter Interlock Alarm System Relay J60

- Disconnect Starter Interlock Alarm System Relay ( J60).

- Connect voltage tester (VAG1527B) as follows:









- Turn ignition key to "Start" position.

LED must illuminate each time

If the LED does not illuminate:

- Repair open circuit or short circuit as necessary.

Check activation of Starter Interlock Alarm System Relay J60

- Connect voltage tester (VAG1527B) as follows:









- Move selector lever from "S" to "P" and back.

With the selector lever in "N" or "P" the LED must illuminate, but not in other selector lever positions

If the LED does not illuminate:

- Check adjustment of selector lever cable.

- Check Multi-function Transmission Range (TR) Switch (F125) => [ Multi-Function Transmission Range Switch, Checking ] Multi-Function Transmission Range Switch, Checking.

- Repair open circuit or short circuit as necessary.
