Driver Knee Airbag

Removing

CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for working on airbags. Refer to => [ Airbag System General Safety Precautions ] Airbag Safety Precautions.

- Disconnect the battery.

- Remove the driver storage compartment and knee airbag. Refer to => [ Driver Side Storage Compartment with Knee Bolster or Knee Airbag Assembly Overview ] Storage Compartments and Covers.

The knee airbag is located in the knee bolster.

CAUTION!
Before handling airbag units (e.g. when disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching door striker, for example.

- Remove the bolts - 1 -.





- Release the clips - 2 - and remove the airbag unit - 4 - from the driver storage compartment.

- Place airbag unit so padding faces upward.

Installing

Installation is reverse of removal, noting the following:

- After an airbag has deployed, replace the storage compartment (knee bolster) and the left and right support. Refer to => [ Driver Side Storage Compartment with Knee Bolster or Knee Airbag Assembly Overview ] Storage Compartments and Covers.

CAUTION!
Before handling airbag units (e.g. when disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching door striker, for example.

- Make sure the knee airbag connector engages audibly with the coupling.

- Switch on the ignition with the battery disconnected.

CAUTION!
No one should be in vehicle when connecting battery.

- Connect the battery.

If the Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) ( K75) shows a malfunction after assembly, DTC memory must be checked with Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System ( VAS 5051 A), cleared and then rechecked.

Passenger Knee Airbag

Removing

CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for working on airbags. Refer to => [ Airbag System General Safety Precautions ] Airbag Safety Precautions.

- Disconnect the battery.

- Remove the rubber cover in the glove compartment.

- Remove the cap - 1 - and nut - 2 -.





- Remove covers - 3 -.

- Remove the bolts - 4 - and lay the airbag unit - 6 - in the footwell so that the so that the padding faces upward.

CAUTION!
Before handling airbag units (e.g. when disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching door striker, for example.

- Pull the locking tab - 1 - in direction of arrow and disconnect the knee airbag connector (yellow) - 2 - from the airbag unit - 3 -.





- Disconnect the ground connector - 4 -.

- Remove the airbag unit.

- Place airbag unit so padding faces upward.

Installing

Installation is reverse of removal, noting the following:

- Replace the glove compartment after an airbag has deployed. Refer to => [ Glove Compartment, with Knee Bolster or Knee Airbag ] Storage Compartments and Covers.

- Make sure the knee airbag connector engages audibly with the coupling.

- Replace the rubber mat.

- Switch on the ignition with the battery disconnected.

No one should be in vehicle when connecting battery.

- Connect the battery.
